If you are living in a traditional home in Silicon Valley, you need to be careful with kitchen and bathroom remodels. We fell for this trap several years ago when we with an LA based designer to remodel our Willow Glenn Ranch style home.
This designer was inspired by architect Frank Gehry who completely ignores matching the exterior look and material of “additions” to the existing structure. Long story short, this architect was adding triangular shape extensions this Ranch Style home which we felt was not the right design for us.
As part of his design, he also selected mismatched bathroom fixture very similar to the one you see in this photo where the Maroon sink is near a White Toilet. I guess the designer was unable to order a Maroon Toilet for this small bathroom remodel.
The challenge with these sort of design concepts is that the materials selected are so personalized that it would be hard to find someone else who might find these designs and materials tasteful. These design ideas will eventually become sales inhibitors since very few buyers will have matching taste for these kind of odd design ideas.
So, save yourself the grief of a difficult home resale and stick to natural colors cause you can still design wonderful bathroom and kitchens for your Silicon Valley home without going crazy with color.
